Gottfried Helnwein Photo Response Part 2

Image 2

The viewpoint of the image does change how I look at the piece. It gives you a wider view of what the photographer originally intended for the viewer to see. Instead of focusing on the upper left portion of her face you get to see her face as a whole and see what, if any, emotion shows on such a large scale photo. The photo that was originally intended for everyone to see is of a young girl with blueish eyes and pale skin with brown/blonde curly hair surrounding her face. The photo is situated on a side of a building next to what looks like a body of water like a bay or inlet. Where the picture is put makes it seem like only a few people will see it, likely the people who live nearby the photo, and that it is kind of isolated instead of being in a busy city or on a busy street. The girl herself looks like she is sad or has a sorrowful emotion across her face. With a such a large photo, I would assume that it was printed on a banner material and hung on the side of the building or that it was printed and pasted on like wallpaper to the side of the building. It looks like the image was cut into sections and pasted to the side of the building. If you look carefully at image 2, you can see the faint lines of where the cut the image especially by her right eye and through her eyebrow. I think the intended audience was those who would see it everyday and those who knew what the meaning was behind the photo. The mood to me is a somber one and it matches the more sad look she has on her face in it. Also with the title "The Last Girl", I think it adds to the somber tone of the image. The reason that i think that is because whenever you think of the last of anything like the last of a species, the last book in a series or the last ice cream cone, to me has a more sad element to it. The last of anything doesn't usually make anyone extremely happy unless it is like a the last movie in a really bad series. So to me as a viewer, the title and image suggest that it is more a sad event taking place rather than a happy one.
